Many have asked, "What's your setup and what happens at one of your shoots"? Well, here's a shoot with the hot fetish model, Mercedes, MercedesModel on fetlife.com.

My studio. The soft box on the boom at the left is the main light, while the umbrella at the right is the fill; the gridded light at the back right is for accent. Ms. Head and the gray card are for viewing and measuring the light from the main and fill.

The gray inverted T-shaped thing at the top right is the seat I used to make the overhead pix in "Lust & Romance" and "Vanilla Sex". You can see part of the track on which the seat travels.

The doorway at the left is to my former darkroom, now a workroom. The door behind the white paper backdrop is to a garden.

The other direction. The soft box at the top center is stored there and is not connected. The strobes are Calumet Series I, more than thirty years old. I chose them because they can handle 600 watt modeling lights; you do want to see what you're photographing, no? I use Quantum Radio Slave wireless triggers; the small black object atop the power pack is the receiver.

My concept in this shoot is to present my version of a cubist portrait done photographically, which I call a “Contact Sheet Sexual Portrait”. Many views of a lady, whole and in pieces, seen simultaneously and presenting different aspects of her personality. And in various stages of undress, somewhat like a strip tease. Including very explicit pictures. The whole presented as an old fashioned 35 mm film contact sheet.

Discussing the upcoming shoot with Mercedes, she asked if Moses (PHOTObyMOSES at fetlife) could be present to video the event as part of a series they are collaborating on. I agreed, with the condition that I also document the event; these pix were made by my intern, Nicole. Both Moses and Nicole shot using the modeling lights.

Recently, I’ve seen lots of work showing what I call damsels in pseudo distress, frequently in fancy rope bondage. The women in my pictures flirt with my camera. They’re strong, in control and display what of themselves they choose.

I use Canon DSLRs, currently a Rebel T2i chosen for its light weight. I've settled on the 18-55 kit lens, also for light weight. That lens is not the very sharpest, which is fine for my subject matter.

I have a checklist of shots I want for the finished Contact Sheet, including certain macro views. I get close, but remain respectful. That's the Radio Slave sender attached to the hot shoe.

When we've completed all the exposures I think I'll need for the Contact Sheet, I ask the model to jump for me. Mercedes prooved to be a great jumper! As you can see, a fun time was had by all!
